After reaching 200 career wins in front of his home crowd, Adam Wainwright, 42, of the St. Louis Cardinals, is preparing to retire.

Wainwright will not start the Cardinals’ upcoming game against the San Diego Padres, according to The Athletic on Tuesday.

St. Louis will host San Diego for a three-game series from April 23-25. Wainwright is scheduled to start Game 2 on the 24th.

However, Wainwright will likely skip that game, as he already reached 200 wins on April 19 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The outlet added that if Wainwright does take the mound again, it will be at home against the Cincinnati Reds on Sept. 30-Oct. 2.

Wainwright pitched his best outing of the season on Sept. 19 against Milwaukee, 메이저놀이터 throwing seven scoreless innings to earn his 200th career win.

With that, he has no reason to take the mound anymore. It’s retirement season for Wainwright, and the Reds’ chances of making the postseason are virtually gone.

If Wainwright were to start a home game against Cincinnati, it would be a service to the home fans at Busch Stadium.

Wainwright had pitched 101 innings in 21 games this season before his last start against Milwaukee, going 5-11 with a 7.40 ERA. A very poor season.
There was even talk of him retiring without reaching 200 wins. However, Wainwright recently won his last two games in a row to reach his final goal.
